Low-cost Mexican airline Volaris, also known as Concesionaria Vuela Compaa de Aviación, S.A.P.I. de C.V., has bases in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Tijuana. The airline operates regularly scheduled flights throughout the Americas, primarily to and from Mexico and the US. Over 65 locations are part of the airline's extensive route network. It is currently the primary domestic airline in Mexico and the second-most popular airline overall, trailing only Aeromexico (international and domestic). Cancun International Airport (CUN), León Airport (LEN), and Monterrey International Airport are the airline's three target cities (MTW).
With the intention of operating as an ultra-low-cost carrier that would give Mexicans more access to routes, Volaris Airlines was established in 2004. The airline's original name was Vuela Airlines before it began operations. In 2006, it made its inaugural trip from Toluca to Tijuana. Later that year, the carrier received $40 million in capital, which it combined with an investment of $130 million to utilise to increase the number of routes it offers in Mexico and expand into other parts of the Americas.
With one of Mexico's youngest fleets and more than 200 daily flights, Volaris is currently one of the country's most significant airlines.
Volaris Costa Rica, the airline's first subsidiary, began operations in 2016 and flies from the San Jose airport to a number of locations in Central and North America. The airline announced its intentions to open Volaris El Salvador in 2018, and it began operations in September 2019.
In June 2012, the airline introduced a frequent traveler club named the VClub.
