Hundreds of flights have been canceled in the UK in recent days, including Ryanair flights.

A technical issue with Britain's air traffic control system has caused problems, causing some planes to end up in the wrong place.

The National Air Traffic Service announced Monday afternoon that the problem had been resolved, although hundreds of flights were canceled.

If you have booked a flight with Ryanair and it has been canceled in these circumstances, here are your rights and how to claim compensation.

What are your rights regarding canceled Ryanair flights?

Ryanair's website says that if you give notice of a flight cancellation 14 days before the scheduled departure time, you have some options.

This includes requesting a refund or changing the canceled flight to new times/dates on the same route free of charge.

It adds that "you may reroute, under comparable transport conditions, to your final destination as soon as possible or at your latest convenience, subject to seat availability."

Ryanair says that if your flight is canceled and there are no suitable Ryanair flights, you can contact them for airport assistance from Ryanair agents.

Further contact options can be found here on their website where they may wish to make alternative arrangements.

If you experience a flight delay or cancellation and decide to reschedule your flight as soon as possible, you are entitled to the following from Ryanair:

Food and snacks are good compared to the wait time;
Two phone calls or emails.
Comfortable hotel accommodations, one or more nights if needed;
Reasonable transportation between airport and accommodation (hotel or other).
"Please note that the above care rights may not apply if you choose to move later for your convenience or if you choose to receive compensation," they add.

Ryanair will not pay compensation for the following reasons:

If the delay or cancellation of the flight is beyond Ryanair's control (extraordinary circumstances which could not have been prevented by all reasonable means);
If you were notified about the flight cancellation more than 14 days before the flight date;
If your flight is delayed and you arrive at your final destination less than 3 hours late.
Under UK Air Passenger Rights 2019, compensation of £220 can be paid for affected flights of 1,500km or more.

This can go up to £350 for flights between 1,500 and 3,500km and up to £520 for longer flights.
