Fortnite is now an Olympic esports discipline
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has added Fortnite to the roster of Olympic esports finals . Twelve players from the Fortnite Champion Series will compete in a shooting competition supported by the International Shooting Sports Federation on a special Fortnite Island. So there will be no last-man battles or building demonstrations, but viewers will get the chance to watch some of the world's best virtual sport shooters compete.
There are currently ten games on the Olympic Esports Series list that more or less fall under existing sports disciplines . There are Just Dance , Gran Turismo racing , Zwift cycling , and even online chess, among others . The event follows on from the 2021 Olympic Virtual Series, which featured five digital sports. The IOC sees this as part of a wider effort to support esports and support the gaming community. The addition of Fortnite Island is in line with the Committee's esports goals and is a "peaceful competition" with its physical counterpart . Therefore, titles such as Counter-Strike or League of Legends do not appear in the Digital Olympics.
